DESCRIPTION:To mark the start of Heritage Week 2023\, Limerick Civic Trust & Historic Houses of Ireland are hosting the opening of an exhibition celebrating the life and legacy in Ireland and Australia of philanthropist Richard Bourke.\nA Governor of Australia and founder of the city of Melbourne\, Gen. Sir Richard Bourke bought Thornfield House Castleconnell in 1810. In 1823\, he opened the non-denominational Ahane National School on the estate as he believed children of all Christian faiths should be educated together. The Constitution of the School now forms part of the foundation of Australian Education. Bourke later transferred Ahane School to the Irish National School Board; a trust that educated Ireland’s working class and reduced sectarian conflict on a larger scale. In his retirement\, Bourke helped establish a model agricultural school in Limerick which later became Mungret College.\nHe remains renowned as a promoter of national education in Ireland and Australia\, a liberal lawmaker\, and convict emancipator. DESCRIPTION:Bradshaws Ukulele Group “BUG’s” based in Castleconnell was founded in 2017. We have made many wonderful memories with this group\, on that journey we have raised funds for several charities including our own local C.A.M. cancer support group\, Enable Irl and Pieta House.  This year’s Ukulele fundraiser is in aid of the Children’s Grief Centre and takes place in Bradshaws on Sunday 24th of Sept from 3pm – all are welcome\, we have complimentary tea/coffee and sweet treats. For our raffle we have some fantastic hampers. We are joined by Limerick ukulele groups supporting us on the day and a few surprises

DESCRIPTION:The Scary Trail is an outdoor event\, starting at the Ferry Car park beside the playground in Castleconnell. From there you will embark on a chilling adventure by the river\, ending up at the Castleoaks Hotel. This event runs in half hour time slots and is suitable for all ages and has proved hugely popular over the years! The event is run entirely by volunteers and all proceeds are reinvested back into the community.

DESCRIPTION:The Vanbrugh and their guests present two of the great works from the extended chamber music repertoire. Brahms’ magnificent 1890 string quintet Op.111 started life in the composer’s sketches for a fifth symphony and its final form retains an orchestral grandeur\, both in structure and in texture. This is truly one of the finest works in the chamber music repertoire\, exuberant\, elegant\, subtle\, original and unmistakably Brahms. DESCRIPTION:Please come join the community meeting in Castleconnell Parish Hall on Wednesday 15th of May at 7pm.\nIn 2018 the communities of Ahane\, Castleconnell and Montpelier developed their Community Socio-Economic Action Plan. The Plan outlined and prioritised a range of actions across the economic\, social\, cultural and environmental spheres\, which the community aimed to implement in partnership with key stakeholders. The plan is available to read at this link: https://www.ballyhouradevelopment.com/acm-community-profile-plan\nOver the last few months\, a number of groups and residents have identified a need and a desire to revisit the plan in light of the changes and challenges that the intervening years have presented\, and the opportunities that lie ahead. And so\, all community groups and community members are invited to join together in Castleconnell Parish Hall on Wednesday May 15th at 7pm to begin the process of reviewing\, revisiting and revitalising the Community Plan for Ahane\, Castleconnell & Montpelier.\nThis meeting will be facilitated by staff from Ballyhoura Development and is open to all members of the community.
