Slí na Sláinte, meaning ‘path to health’ are signposted walking routes around Ireland and we have one right here in Castleconnell.
Slí na Sláinte was developed by the Irish Heart Foundation to encourage people to walk the recommended 30 minutes a day on a regular basis and as such, each route is marked by colourful signposts at 1 km intervals.
Castleconnell’s Slí na Sláinte is 3.8km long and begins at the Ferry car park by the river. Take a right out of the car park and walk up Chapel Hill, past the row of whitewashed cottages and the entrance to the Castle Oaks House Hotel. Continue on, past the historic All Saints Church of Ireland and the cottages in St Flannans Terrace, turning left onto Belmont Road. This will take you up to the Dublin Road, where you should turn left towards Daly’s Cross and then follow signs into Castleconnell village. Go left at Skehan’s Cross, past Castleconnell National School and the Railway Station until you come to the water pump at the top of the Main Street. From here, walk down the Main Street, past the parish hall and turn left at St Joseph’s Church. This will take you back to the Ferry car park and the ruins of the Castle alongside.
