If you take a walk down the riverside nature trail, and continue past the Fairy Woods through the wooded walkway, you will see a majestic owl sculpture gazing out across the river. Commissioned by the Castleconnell Tidy Towns group in 2022, it was carved by Will Fogarty, ‘Fear na coilite chainsaw sculptures’ from an old beech tree, one of many trees felled and uprooted during Storm Ellen in 2020.
It is a fabulous addition to the nature trail and stands proudly surveying the River Shannon just beyond the steps coming down from the Castle Oaks House Hotel.
